Tom,
If your figs were outside, I suspect they weren't growing vigorously enough to support the fruit. You may have had some glorious sunny warm days, but if you were like us in Thornhill, the nights have been very cold. Just a week ago, my thermometer registered just above zero on one night.
Some figs can take it better than others. Of my breba crop - perhaps about 10 figs - I have two left that are starting to mature. The others turned yellow, shrivelled and dropped. Mind you, three of the dropped ones were on a yearling plant that overwintered in a sunny window. The figs existed all winter, and even with oiling, they did not ripen. When moved outside, that was the end.
My breba crop would have been larger had I not slowed the plants down by moving them from a 50 degree cold room to a just above zero environment. Unless you have facilities to keep the plants growing vigorously, keep them dormant as long as possible till the warm weather arrives.
Then again, there could be tree rats....

Hi,
Of my first two fig breabas one is gone and the other on itÂ’s way out.
The top is turning brown on the second one. The first just disappeared.
Does this happen often?
Tom
