Hello,

What does a fig bud look like?

My figs are all leafed out except for two odd looking, fat buds at the top that look like tiny avacados, about the size of a very large pea (ring finger fingernail size)?

This is only the second season for the figs.  Last season they were simply rooted cuttings.  They are about 3’ tall and single stemmed.

Second question…

Can figs be air-layered?  Each of my figs has a single sucker emerging from the ground, next to the main stem.  I did not get to rooting them soon enough.

So could I wound the sucker near the ground, put rooting hormone on it, wrap it in damp peat moss, wait for it to root, and then cut it off below the roots?

Otherwise, how is everyone doing?

Later,

Tom
