Hello All,

As many of you know, I attend the school of "Cheapo University". Soon I hope to graduate "Magnum Cum Frugal", like our friend Bert. Anyway...

I happened to notice in a Home Hardware flyer a hose-end device for watering trees. It simpoy circled at trees base. I thought it was a good idea until saw their price $36!

Basicly, it was a fancy hose that circled the tree with holes in it.

U-of-Cheap advises to keep your eyes open for discarded garden hose at the curbside. Keeping the female end of the hose cut off a 5-10' section of hose (as long or short as you like). Plug the cut end with a cork (fat stick is cheaper). Now take a leather punch and make a hole every three inches. Lay the hose around the drip line of the tree, connect to faucet and open the faucet enough so water emerges from all the holes. Let the hose run for as long as you like.

Cost $0.

The best part is you could create a simple drip system doing this, and use it (with a timer) to water container plants while on vaction. Or water an entire 50' row of grapes, just putting holes where the vines are.

Sure, you can buy all that stuff, but U-of-Cheap does not allow that towards degree credits. (smile)

Later,
Tom
