The NC Internet Sales Tax really stinks. A case of hard facts (and hard
times) leading to bad law. I'm hoping that the NC Department of Revenue
and Amazon.com (and other online retailers) will be able to figure out a
compromise in the enforcement of the law that will allow North
Carolina-based online businesses to again earn revenue from affiliate
sales. If not, the General Assembly has just driven a lot of businesses
and tax revenue out of the state.

Here's a good summary of what it means:

And a more recent article:
http://www.examiner.com/x-17978-Raleigh-Top-News-Examiner~y2009m8d9-Amazon-tax-hurts-local-goodwill-effort-small-businesses

And an online forum for discussing the issue:

I've heard some stuff from affected businesspeople who tried to stop the
legislation about our elected represntatives in Raleigh, but my mama
taught me that if I didn't have anything nice to say I shouldn't say
anything at all.
