Once they are finished using the sports cars to work out the
production kinks and fund the refinements necessary to enable these
technologies to be manufactured cheaply, quickly, and with sufficient
quality to be safe. :-)
I think Tesla has explicitly said that their plan is to slowly work
their way down the price range, effectively using the profits from the
more expensive vehicles to fund the development of progressively
cheaper and more practical vehicles.
