Yeah the admin console is much better in 5.1 and I understand why you found it irritating. Its still not beautiful but I think that has a lot to do with incredible granularity of control Drupal gives you.

IMHO, it fits perfectly in this case. Many bloggers with different needs requires a lot of fine control. I've launched a site with far more bloggers than this also with the requirement for different templates last year and it worked very well with Drupal. The problem with WP last I checked was the limited security control. With Drupal you can define your own roles and an infinite number of them.

admin interface was a PitA. Also, does Drupal really fit for this use
