Its long but if you are at all interested in hearing both sides of an issue

The "junk science" political movement is quite interesting. The religious right has an inherent animosity towards science vis-a-vie that bible thing, and is flexing its might by attacking science on all fronts, which ties in nicely with corporations who want to decrease both government regulation and legal liability. For example, Fox News has a "junk science" column where they feature the weekly outrage by those evil liberal, god-hating scientists.

Here's a good example: second-hand smoke. Even the Bush Administration's own surgeon General says that there is "overwhelming scientific evidence" that secondhand smoke causes heart disease, lung cancer, and other illnesses, and that there's "no safe level of secondhand smoke". (Recent articles on CNN and NYT.)

And yet to the good people at junkscience.com say that "The largest- ever study on secondhand smoke and lung cancer ... reported no statistically significant increase in lung cancer risk associated with exposure to secondhand smoke".
