WNCU 90.7 FM SET TO RAISE $25K IN A DAY TO SUPPORT NEW ORLEANS HURRICANE
KATRINA SURVIVORS

DURHAM, NC, SEPTEMBER 13, 2005 - WNCU 90.7 FM, the Triangles number one
station for jazz and information, has set a goal of $25,000 to aid
Habitat for Humanity relief efforts for New Orleans survivors of
Hurricane Katrina. On Friday, September 16, a New Orleans jazz marathon
will air on the station for a 24-hour period beginning at 8 a.m.

If the $25,000 goal is met within the day, an anonymous donor,
requesting to only be known as Carolyn from Durham, will match listeners
contributions with a very generous $25,000 donation.

Programming for the 24-hour period will feature all New Orleans jazz
music and artists with an emphasis on the world famous New Orleans jazz
festivals. WNCU jazz announcers will relay on-air shifts and will
encourage listeners to call 1-866-751-1155 to make a donation toward the
goal.

General Manager Edith Thorpe is elated at the opportunity to help those
who are so desperately in need at this time.

Its been heartbreaking to see so many people affected in such a major
way. It is our hope that we can surpass our $25,000 goal so that WNCU
can help to build at least one home in New Orleans, said Thorpe.

Tim Daugherty, senior director of direct marketing for Habitat for
Humanity International, stated the average cost to build a Habit home is
$85,000.

"Habitat succeeds on the strength of those who support our work --
donors, volunteers, staff, and vendors … everyday people who lend their
hearts and hands to our mission. Today, we are all sharing in the
aftermath of the terrible toll of Hurricane Katrina and are facing one
of the greatest rebuilding projects in memory, said Daugherty. We are
thankful for the generous donor who has agreed to match up to $25,000
for funds raised through the WNCU event, but please know there is no
gift so small that it won't make a difference in a family's life in New
Orleans or Biloxi or Gulfport or Ocean Springs. Dimes and dollars buy
nails and lumber and shingles that will build security, sanctuary …
safety for families so in need of all those things.

Later this year, WNCU plans to partner with the City of Durham and St.
Josephs Historic Foundation, Inc. to present a benefit concert as a
follow-up to this fundraising effort.
