I learned programming when I was 11. It was BASIC on an Apple II+ and then
later on the IBM XT. But BASIC is pretty dead nowadays, I'd imagine. I've
also heard about Logo being a good language for kids to learn. Or maybe
something like Visual Basic. Any ideas?

Basic is still OK as a learning language. Really, any "3rd generation" high-level language should be OK. You learn the same basic concepts:
sequence, selection, and iteration - regardless.

That said, C++ would be my choice. ;-)
