Seeking an individual to report to the Associate Executive for
Information Development and Management and partnering with the IIC
Architecture and Research Department, this position will lead
information standards development and technology integration efforts
for USC digital library initiatives. Efforts will focus on software
development projects in the areas of;
acquiring/licensing/reformatting/creating digital materials, providing
integrated bibliographic access to resources, and establishing the
infrastructure for more advanced digital projects. The incumbent will
design and develop web interfaces to digital resources, including
their information architecture, to improve access to information;
integration of licensed digital resources into local information
systems; redesign of existing information integration architecture for
more flexible and robust deployment; development and adaptation of
technology standards to integrate access and management of digital
resources; research to improve human/computer interactions and to
resolve information management problems; investigation and
experimentation with digital archiving alternatives, leading to
community standard practices; collaboration with related groups: IIC
Architecture and Research Department (infrastructure); ISD Scholarly
Technology Department (digital video, multimedia, etc.); IIC
Applications Development Department (authentication, authorization
control, directory services, distributed computing, etc.) The ideal
candidate will directly or indirectly supervise all assigned
subordinate staff, usually through other supervisors; recruits,
screens, hires and trains staff; assesses need for technical and
professional growth and recommends development opportunities;
evaluates employee performance and provides guidance and feedback;
counsels and/or disciplines as needed. Prepares long and short-range
plans for applications selection, systems development, systems
maintenance, and production activities for necessary support
resources. Reviews and prioritizes systems development requests;
prepares cost estimates for current and proposed projects, reflecting
staff and equipment requirements; develops project specifications;
plans and coordinates project schedules and related activities;
directs coding, testing, installation, debugging and documentation of
systems developments and/or enhancements. Develops and implements
security related procedures such as office opening and closing
routines, recognition of duress signals and key controls; coordinates
security activities with University Public Safety Department; promotes
and maintains standards for security conscious awareness and behavior;
maintains knowledge of Universitys crime prevention and suppression
programs and services; ensures dissemination of security related
information to staff.
