If I had 802.11b and was only using it to surf the net, or stuff like
that, and it worked for me, I wouldn't upgrade. Mainly because g goes no
faster than b does because your bottlneck will be your high speed internet
connection which unless you have something unique isn't more than 11MB/s.

If I was starting out new and it was a toss up between b or g I'd buy g
because b is fading away.

If I want to copy stuff from one computer to another in bigger than simple
documents and on a regular basis g would be better because throughput is a
bit better with it, but honestly it's still pretty slow compared to wired.

But since b/g are compatible (100% in my house at least) I would start
with g. I've got Apple's Airports scattered around my home.
