At least tangentially on topic -- does anyone know how to go backwards
to slides? As in, upload a digital pic and have a slide made and sent
back?

Yes, this was very common around my office up to several years ago.
The researchers would take slides of their work to give talks and
almost everyone had a slide projector rather than using PowerPoint
presentations with projectors. The equipment was pricy and the dpi
was not great, but you didn't need it for chemical structures and
biochemical pathways.
There was a place near the airport where you could get this done.
I don't think there is much of a business in that any more since
most presentations are done on PowerPoint or something like it. I
wouldn't think that the process would do a very good job on
photographs, but I could be wrong.
I would call around to the photo processing places to see if they
could shoot the slide film from PowerPoint. You need to set up
your files with a specific aspect ratio and PowerPoint has a
setting for that. Good luck, Roger
