Here are a couple of quotes:

You can donate your used, but useful, computer gear to TEAMing for
TECHnology, a computer recycling program operated from the Morrisville
headquarters of Triangle United Way since 1996.

...

The process helped keep more than $500,000 worth of useful computer gear
in use in 2003 alone, helping about 200 families and 179 agencies,
according to Bowers-Roghelia.

There's decription of programs that use the computers, ending with:

And donating unused computers for refurbishing and redistribution by
TEAMing for TECHnology can help make those literacy, GED and job skills
classes possible, noted Bowers-Roghelia.

Note that this is the same group that worked with the Triangle
Linux Users Group last year to sell off a bunch of non-PC hardware
and raise money for both TriLUG and Teaming for Technology.

The Teaming for Technology group is very worthwile. I recommend
people look into them. :-)
