aka junk mail:

We all hate spam; it sucks on a massive scale. Ultimately, though, it's
only real cost is time.
Junk mail, on the other hand, takes a material toll. Just think of the
millions or hundreds of millions of AOL cds in our landfills. There outta
be a law. Maybe there is one. Anyone know of it? Nah, I doubt it. Spam
isn't illegal; why should junk mail be. Yet, oddly enough, unsolicited
faxes and unwanted (previously declared as such) telemarketing calls are
illegal. "Oddly enough" because, well, shouldn't it *all* be either legal
or illegal? I mean, exceeding the speed limit isn't illegal on *some*
roads....
eh. just thinking out loud. I'm sure I'm overlooking some salient point.
and I'm sure someone will point it out to me shortly...
