I watched the Open Mic thingy on TechTV today regarding this issue. I was
shocked that they didn't discuss one of the leading reasons RIAA is going
after downloading. The fact that people are discovering that there is life
(quality music and musicians) outside of the record companies' laboratory
experiments they call "artists" has them sleepless. They are completely
threatened by not being able to manage the youth of today (and their
wallets) by controlled exposure to the crap they pass as music these days.
They are terrified that someone might discover that, oh, Jimi Hendrix is
incredible. They don't make as much on older bands. They don't want someone
like Jimi Hendrix making a post-mortem run at the charts again.

Rambling again, off to bed.
