Howdy,

Disclaimer: This is not related to my day job in any way/shape/form and I
don't get anything out of this other than helping out ex-coworkers.

I got a call from an ex-coworker that is now a "Client Manager" at a
consulting firm. The quotes indicate he is likely losing his technical
chops from the management/sales lobotomy. ;-) In catching up on life and
other non-work stories the subject of finding good people came up since they
are having a bear of a time finding Atlanta/Charlotte/DC talent for a
specific project...

It turns out he has three spots for 4 month contract work in Charlotte, NC.
The contracts are to start immediately and last at least through the end of
the year. This is a very specific workload that requires at least 12 months
of recent experience with developing EJB's on Weblogic 7 (8.x is okay too)
on a Windows environment. Having attended Weblogic classes does not mean
recent experience.

You might ask why so specific? Well, the firm already does Websphere and
JBOSS/Tomcat work but needs specific Weblogic EJB talent. As such, pure
Websphere or JBOSS people trying to re-tool themselves will likely just spin
gears and waste time trying to learn Weblogic oddities. I've got Weblogic
Administration training/experience for both 6 and 7 and a Weblogic
development course under my belt so I understand what they mean. My guess
is the project is exploiting specific Weblogic hooks vs. doing a custom
framework [1] and they are using post WLS 6.x conventions.

Since needing a year of recent Weblogic experience -really- -really- limits
the pool of talent they are looking at paying anywhere between $40-$50/hr
based on experience and they can include a per diem for travel. Basically,
those that have the experience probably have a job related to it already.
They don't care if you came from healthcare, financial, or anything like
that... this is a strict platform requirement only. So, If you -can- work
in Charlotte, NC and can dress for on site this might be for you.

If you want their contact information please reply off list. I can send you
the contact information for both the client partner and staffing manager at
the consulting firm. Next week I will just post their full contact
information on the job board. :-)

Thanks,
Jay

[1] I've seen a lot of money spent on WebSphere/WebLogic/ATG/Netscape that
could have been done much faster/easier using other alternatives. That
said, I've also done work on WebLogic that you couldn't do on anything other
than WebLogic. If anyone wants to argue the salient points of electing to
use one J2EE container project/product over another let the list thread
begin!
