OK, so I will be the first to report in on our lunch at Gran Sabana.
YMMV, esp given I am no gourmet.
At lunch, they are set up in a buffet-line style, sort of like their
next-door competition. In the evenings, they apparently convert to a
more traditional, waiter-to-table order-off-the-menu restaurant. The
lunch special today was one meat (from a spread of four selections, 2
chicken, one beef, one pork), one rice (of two choices) and one beans
(of three kinds? i think) for $5.95. Well worth it, you get a heap o'
food.
I had the chicken in Creole sauce, black beans & rice, and added fried
cassava/yuca. The cassava was great, do not miss the green dipping sauce
(NOT guacamole) - just divine. Also, if you like it hot, try their hot
sauce - it's really damn hot, not at all watery runny-thin like typical
American shelf hot sauces, and very very good. The chicken was excellent
as well, tender and well-flavored without being overpowered.
My friend Carl who joined us has eaten a lot of authentic Latin American
and Caribbean coast food, and he said it was all very good as well. He
had the fried plantains and loved them.
I'll let the others tell about their thoughts and selections, but I can
say I will definitely go back.
Where's lunch for next week? ;-)
