Nicknamed "The Greys", the pensioner party could become an ever
increasing force in Brittish politics. The recent elections in Scotland
landed them a single MSP (Member Scottish Parliament ). The 55+ age
group count for as much as 1/3 of the voting public with a higher %
voter turn out than any other age demographic. Togehter with 11 other
independent/single issue elected MSP's, the ruling Labor party has been
forced into a coallition for the first time.
Single issue parties are a continuing trend in Britian, but why not here
in the States? Imaginge a party focused solely on the domestic issues
of the 55+ age group. That is a very large chunk of the voting
population, probably with a good deal of money raising clout, which
could have more political influence as a focused, issues based party
than dealing with the two main party's that claim to represent them.
In the unlikely event that the voting laws are changed, I might consider
the creation of the Green Card Party :-)
