It can be cool if you mistyped something, but also a royal pain in the
butt when you're looking for something that is spelled slightly
different than a common English word. This happens to me way too often
when I'm searching for names or foreign words.

somewhat off-topic...

I just realized that Google does spell-checking. I was looking for a
recipe for a favorite Jewish holiday pastry, but I misspelled it. My
search for "hamantosh" produced desired results for the correctly
spelled hamantaschen.

P.S. -- ... or perhaps I'm too hopeful and it was merely that those
sites had the misspelling in their meta tags....
