Dear folks:
Admittedly I am not familiar with primary schools in this area,
but I was somewhat taken back that resources, namely books, for many urban
students were in such short supply. (See message below.)
If any of you wish to donate some books, I can collect at our
December meeting and deliver them.

Kate

Hi Kate,

I can't speak to your question, except to say that resources for
teachers at many urban schools are limited. This particular teacher is a
UNC graduate (I believe from the Journalism school) who came into
teaching after having worked in another profession. Teaching isn't what
she thought it would be. She teaches in a trailer classroom. On warm
days it has a musty, mildewed smell and on rainy days the roof leaks. I
asked her about the leaky roof and she said she had put in a request to
fix it at the start of the school year. She buys used books for the
children from her own money. The collection she has is very limited.

Dear Lovetta:

Out of curiousity - how often do public schools in this area not have
enough books for students?
