Thought this little tidbit from the NACS (North Am. College Stores)
Newsletter might be of interest, especially to those of you working for
public institutions. The actual article is in the Chronicle of Higher
Education

5.) USE DISCRETION IN E-MAIL EXCHANGES

You may think of e-mail as a private form of communication, akin to
receiving or sending a letter through the post office, but don't count on
the courts or public higher education institutions to back you. If you work
for a public institution, your e-mails -- no matter how embarrassing or
personal -- may be subject to review under the Freedom of Information Act.
That means competitors, possible litigants, reports, or the curious could
attempt to access your e-mail messages sent during work hours.
