I went to the bank this morning, and a little old lady was at the ATM
machine. She was a little perplexed and asked for my help. When I looked at
the screen I saw a familiar dialog:

Internet Explorer: Javascript error, would you like to debug?
YES NO

I can't believe someone would build an ATM on top of Windows and Internet
Explorer!!!! The poor old lady (and the four people behind her) had to wait
around for five minutes while I tried to get rid of the error dialog. The
system had a touch screen, but I couldn't hit the tiny "NO" button-- in the
end it probably just timed out.

To add insult to injury, we all had to sit through video commercials on the
ATM screen. I went in to the bank and complained, but the system was working
OK when a teller came out, so there wasn't any evidence for them to see. It
took about five minutes for me to explain what happened, and I eventually
just gave up.

The operating costs of the new systems, including OS licensing fees and
repairs have got to be much larger than the old ATMs. Hopefully the bank will
figure this out
