Hey, did everybody else already hear about this, am I behind the times,
or what?

This message excerpt from a friend who does SA stuff & scripting locally
(identifying information removed):

"[the problem they had] is a result of the upgrade to IE 6....
Microsoft, in their infinite wisdom, chose to sneak an OS upgrade into
IE. During the installation of IE5.5 or higher, if you choose to
install the Offline Browser option, [the IE installer] removes the
Schedule service and replaces it with the new and "improved" GUIized
Task Scheduler service. ...[t]his occasionally [causes] tasks scheduled
with the old scheduler service to disappear or no longer work unless you
recreate them using the new Task Scheduler GUI. "

How amusing. How festive. How many hours of sysadmin time around the
world fixing broken scheduled jobs after upgrading IE. And best of all,
now you MUST USE the GUI module. God forbid you should use a command
line interface. Too much like that other OS, right?;-)

Paula the semi-lurker
who can't wait to hang out with Paul
and all those other cool people this weekend at Duke.
