Folks, I am making a statement on behalf of my fellow technical writers.

If you are involved in a business that creates 'stuff' that includes documentation for customers, please, for the love of pete, please keep your tech writers as informed as you possibly can. Change a screen shot? Tell the writers. Decide at the last minute to use a completley different Internet configuration tool? Tell the writers.

Yes--this is the day I am having.

I just came thisclose to sending out, long story short, the wrong shit to go into the documentation I deal with. Why? No, not because I'm a dolt, but because tech writers are the bastard stepchildren (no offense to any bastard stepchildren reading this) of the computer industry and the Mighty Developers/Engineers frequently disregard us completely.

Leaving us out of the information loop will A)likely lead to crappy documentation B)give folks in support even more phone calls from people needing help and C)make your company look a little stoopid.

Love your tech writers. Hell, keep everybody from the receptionist to the CEO informed. What a concept...

Thanks for listening and have a nice day.

Love,
Beth
