I've been hearing rumors of this for quite some time. Having lived in NYC,
10-digit dialing is no real problem.

*BUT* I should mention that NY gave pagers and cell phones their own area
code very early on. And I think *THAT* could/would have saved us a few
years on the arrival of 10-digit dialing.
