I've heard so many awful things about Broadvision that I'd be loath to
recommend it to my worst enemy. Peter Merholz catalogued a few of the
more glaring lacunae here:

It's a bit old, and hopefully BV has addressed many of these problems.
But IMHO, it remains one of the more ridiculously expensive "solutions"
out there.
But beyond that knee-jerk reaction to BV, I'd be curious as to how the
"someone" envisions "personalization" fitting into their site - what is
the scope of their requirements, in other words? And why would you
consider paying money for generalized bloatware in the first place?
