help!

i am a relative newbie to the production and maintenance of high quality
websites
and i'd like to open up a debate or receive a personal response on the demand
(for work that can produced
with),
compatibility, characteristics, and overall functionality of the following
applications:

Macromedia:

Fireworks 2
Dreamweaver 2
Flash 4
Director 7

-- does Director 7 contain the same tools as the others? Is it
necessary to have more than one? Which
does what?

Adobe:

GoLive 4

-- does anyone do any serious web-application video work with Premier
or After Effects?

-- Are there any other applications that are on par with or better than
these for website construction?

-- Which are best for commerce oriented sites? Art oriented sites?
Information sites? Sound? Video?
Java? Manipulation?

-- Who provides the best quality (and secure) and/or least expensive online
credit card processing service?

-- HTML? XML? what's up?

thanks a lot! any response is appreciated... i've got some learning to do,
and not a huge budget, but enough
to do what i need to do...
