i think this is of general interest to some of the internetworkers. my
apologies if not or if you are already plugged into this. rtpjug is a
fairly structuralist group, but i've always benefited from attending
their meetings nonetheless. they meet on third mondays in the mcnc
auditorium. they are at a point where they are just starting to branch
out into all sorts of special projects. good time to get involved if
you've got time or interest on your hands. their website is here:

Title: Internet Unplugged: The Wireless Revolution

Abstract:
The wireless revolution is suddenly here, and the Internet
will never be the same. Learn about the current hot wireless
technologies, especially WAP, who the players are, and how
Java and XML fit into this new world order.

Why should you care? By 2002, there may be over 1 billion
wireless subscribers globally. [Source: Robertson Stephens]

Objective:
Attendees will be able to:
* Understand the basics of current wireless Internet
technologies including WAP, Palm/PQA, and Bluetooth
* Understand the role of Java, XML, WML, servlets, etc.
* Identify the key players in this space
* Write their first WAP application!

Format:
60 minutes, followed by Q&A

Biography:
Dave Spitz is the co-founder and CTO of WindWire Inc., a
startup focused on delivering integrated wireless applications.
[Plug: WindWire is hiring!]. Prior to forming WindWire,
Spitz was a Senior Architect at Nortel Networks. Prior to
Nortel, Spitz co-founded Netsation, a networking software
startup that was acquired by Bay Networks in 1998. Spitz
has a B.A. in Computer Science from the University of
California at San Diego.
