Job Description: Occupational Summary: Position provides leadership in the
growing area of web development and services and the emerging area of video
services. The Sr. Manager is responsible for developing and implementing
plans that meet the needs of the Duke community today and establishing an
office to support those needs as they evolve over time. The Sr. Manager
facilitates the plans and the growth in these areas through
community-building, relationship management and providing strong leadership
to groups throughout campus that provide and utilize web and video
services. This position is also the lead consultant role within the central
Web and Video Services unit and is responsible for ongoing client needs
assessments, planning, and coordination with other web and video services
providers and the overall Duke community, especially the Office of News and
Communications. In addition to business development and project
responsibilities, the position requires the ability to fulfill a variety of
administrative functions including budgeting, staffing and resource
management. Duties and Responsibilities: 1) Provide leadership in assisting
Duke senior management in setting the overall web and video strategy for
Duke. 2) Translate strategy into action plans to meet the immediate and
future needs of the Duke community. 3) Provide leadership in investigating,
conceptualizing, creating and evolving the infrastructure, resources,
policy guidelines, and tools needed for Duke's Internet development
process. 4) Work closely with Duke's senior leadership in communications,
technology, information management and other areas to build a strong web
community to facilitate cooperation and the sharing of resources, and to
avoid redundancy where appropriate. 5) Establish and oversee the Web and
Video Services unit's staffing and budgeting. 6) Define assumptions and
requirements and inform usability of projects through analysis and
consulting. Technical Skills: (1)Needs assessment, (2) Strong analytical
skills (3)Ability to apply an understanding of Web solutions and the
possibilities and limitations of the medium, including strategic, visual,
communications, and technical aspects, (3) Fundamental understanding of the
core principles of Web information architecture, information design and
theories of navigation, (4) Fundamental understanding of video and audio
capabilities, including streaming video and audio, video conferencing and
technology trends (5) Awareness of current trends in user experience
development and ability to spot future trends (6)Comprehension of Web
usability and/or HCI (Human Computer Interaction) theories and practices
(7) Experience conducting primary and secondary research, gathering,
organizing and analyzing data, participating in problem definition and
analysis, and preparing client presentations (8)Coordination of technical,
visual and communications resources, (9) Project budgeting and funding,
(10) Department budgeting and funding, and (11) Project management Soft
Skills: (1)Communication (verbal, written, technical and non-technical),

combination of relevant education and experience.
Experience: Experience: Minimum of four years of experience evaluating,
developing and/or consulting for web services required. Experience leading
a cross-functional web team preferred.
