I can't wait 6 months for this surgery. I've already been in significant pain
for 5 months. I can't take it anymore. Besides, the longer I put it off, the
greater the risk of injuring it more severely.

Joy.

If you've already waited for 5 months and you wait another month, the
condition does not qualify as pre-existing *only* *if* you have not had
treatment/consultation for it within the preceding 6 months.

I am not suggesting you wait any longer to have your surgery, just
clarifying your complaint of "pre existing condition".

People talk about "pre existing conditions" all the time and think it's a
death sentence for insurance - like, I have a bad knee and I know I have a
bad knee, and my doctor mentioned it once 2 years ago, but now I'm on a
different insurance and will they cover it? Yes, they'll cover it, since
it was more than 6 months ago that I had anything done about it. And
that's according to NC state law, so if your insurance people try to pull
you around, you can whip out the book on them.
