Alas, soil can test rich in calcium and tomatoes still set befouled fruit due
to calcium deficiency.
Tomatoes don't do well on alkaline calcium sources like calcium carbonate.
Calcium chloride works better. Or calcium which has been in the compost pile
a long time - no matter the source.
I would not have thunk it but eggshells can really move the pH of the soil in
the immediate area more than I'd like. So started putting eggshells in a
special compost heap combined with acidic sources of organic material like
oak leaves and pine needles, until it all breaks down into duff.
