- Date: Sat, 31 Jan 2009 08:29:27 -0800 (PST)
Last month - learned about shortages of chicken wire.
Yesterday, getting LP, learned that there are shortages of LP gas equipment
parts - same reason stated as down at the feed farm supply store about
chicken wire........ manufacturers bankrupt, and dealers going out of
business.
If anyone is out shopping at small businesses, please start making inquiries,
casual conversation. Suspect we need to know if shortages are getting
widespread or are localized.
Anyone finding out about shortages please post.

OK, my find of free old glass turned into a disaster.
I spent countless hours removing the various types of materials holding the
glass in place in the frames, as I needed to remove the small panes to use in
my cold frame project.
Only the slightest pressure on the glass caused small cracks which grew into
large cracks. Glass was probably 1930-1940 era... brittle.
Went to local glass store. Wow - glass is super expensive. Everyone I
talked to was thinking $10-$20 each for 2 panes needed. Wrong, $120 each !!!
Coincidently, I noticed used broken panes in the back and asked if they could
just cut down some of the broken store front windows. Yep. Total cost?
Labor only. $20. (48x35 panes, time 2 of them...)
So.......... anyone needing glass ---- check local window shops and let them
know you'd be interested in broken panes. They cut them down to size - takes
about 10 mins, including sanding off the sharp edges.
Back to swinging hammer, screwing in screws, digging.
And hopefully, will get a chance to catch up on the posts....

One more thing...skip if not interested in what is going on economically.

highlights: Pinnochio Bush increased Fed budget by 60% in 8 years,,, Obama is
increasing it an additional 25% in his first 3 months.
US citizens are financially illiterate, and basing their decisions on phoney
numbers/statistics produced by a government who knows the citizens are
financially illiterate.
Chinese & other foreign investors - purchases of US Treasuries dropping off
the cliff. Only buying 1-3 year maturity dates. (FYI - this is potentially
a financial nuclear bomb for the US - as all they have to do is not rollover
at maturity.)
A quote from Ayn Rand in the article:

without receiving.
The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not
first take from somebody else.
When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because
the other half is going to take care of them, and when the other half gets
the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get
what they work for, that my dear friend, is about the end of any nation. You
cannot multiply wealth by dividing it."

Stuff like that.

Been having fun building things.
