Gads! They spent that on a couple of preliminary bailouts!

AND the New Deal didn't work. We've already posted the comments made in 1929
and 1930 that showed that the administration back then thought the depression
would last only a few months at worst. And of course they were calling it a
'depression' so as not to use the more horrific term 'recession'.

It dragged on for ten years and many if not most historians attribute the end
to the depression to other causes entirely than the New Deal. While gearing
up for war is the most popular, the people I talk to who lived during that
time said the recovery was well on the way before we were involved in the
war.
