It's not just winged-elm, all elms are the Devil to split. It is, IMO, an
utter waste of effort to try to split it. But it's excellent firewood so
when
I can get it, it is reserved for the chunk stove. After bucking the log with
the crosscut saw, any piece too big for the stove is cut with a rip saw. You
wimpy chiansaw types can do that easily, it rips very easily with a chain
saw.
Wedge behind the cut or it will bind. </HTML>
