I give this article an "Oh, Duh!" ANYTIME you put in a new power plant on the grid, you have to add transmission lines. Did they really think they could just tap into existing feeder lines and be done with it? His concept of a "power backbone" is a bad idea. What makes our power system so dependable is the "spider web" type pattern it now has. The backbone concept would make out country very susceptible to wide spread outages (several states at a time). I can't believe that the people who built the wind stations didn't take into account the limitations of supplying into a source feeder line. Now they want the government to fund and regulate something that is THEIR responsibility and should have been planned for added into the cost of the power plant at the beginning. I'm a serious RE fan and I think wind stations are a must, however, this is the kind of half-baked nonsense that has given RE a bad name from the beginning and can be used by the nay-sayers to show that RE and conventional power is not compatible, that we (as a power user and tax payer) must.fork over mega-bucks to add RE to our power strategy. I wanna puke.
