Hi, Gene - and all.
I went looking. Without going any farther, I found this (below). Aside from
the dog thing (I remember Dax and Benny, but can't remember which one you
still have), there is the earthworm issue. Who'd a thunk?
BLACK WALNUT
Juglans nigra
(walnut family)
TOXICITY RATING: Moderately toxic, depending upon length of exposure.
ANIMALS AFFECTED: Horses, dogs, possibly other animals.
DANGEROUS PARTS OF PLANT: ALL PARTS (ESPECIALLY LEAVES)

Well, Benny doesn't chew on anything related to walnut as far as I know. But this information on horses will be of interest to many here. And those of us who do woodworking will want to dispose of walnut chips, shavings and sawdust well away from the compost pile and garden and where domestic animals might ingest the stuff.

Interesting about the earthworms. Nastier trees even than what I thought.
