Yes, I suppose it could be a blue persimmon. The ones I found were dried out, and if the blues mature when the orange ones do, then that is probably what I have. My only hangup with this is that the trees are growing wild in the woods, not likely genetic cultivars. That would mean that I have rare trees, and I really don't think I'm that special to have such rare 'natural' mature trees.
I went out and looked at the tree again, and I see no fruit on the tree right now, but then again, it's a tall tree, not like the other persimmons I have on the property. And that's another thing..with so many orange persimmons, wouldn't the blue strain be watered down over time?? These 'blue' trees would be at least 40-50 years old, maybe 15 inches in diameter...I have trouble identifying anything from the bark, because bark changes with the age of the tree.
