Ahh. I understand the sealing process, do it all the time. Have never
refilled three times, though. I generally use a pressure cooker (high
elevation). Haven't always been successful at pickles. Will have to try
the refill process.

Doing so heats up the contents enough to make a sterile seal on the jar. On
a domed mason lid, the contents has to cool and contract enough to draw down
the dome in the lid. The operation I describe puts enough heat into the jar
and its contents to seal the jar.
