Winter is always the best for astronomy. In years past, we've had the
star party in January, but last year we did not have it at all due to
the weather. We tried in January, February and March, but the clouds
and rain got us every time. We have monthly meetings here, and twice a
year-summer and winter, we have "big events" and invite the public.
This year, we are starting in October. We also hope to draw out more of
the public by doing it this time of year when it is 45-50 degrees
instead of 15-20 degrees.
It has been raining for a few days now, but it is finally clearing. I
was too busy with email to look at the sky tonight..I hate it when that
happens. The day was pretty much shot from the get-go.

Thanks for thinking of me (I think)

We had a "Bev" moment on the way home tonight. We went into the big city (population 3,000, one hour away) and on the way home I mentioned your star gazing and about halfway up our private road, DH came to screeching halt. I'm looking around for the deer I know we must have almost hit (we'd already done this 4 times on the highway) and he says, "what's her name?" Big pause and I'm really confused now and then he says "Look, the Big Dipper is sitting on top of Bally." Sure enough, bright and clear as being in a show down in SF's Planetarium was the Big Dipper looking like a pot sitting on top
the mountain. I said, "You're right, and that would be Bev and
I'll bet she'd have loved this show!" They were SPECTACULAR tonight!

Bev -- all I get is a the headline of the paper and the note: "no
local headlines have been inserted" No stories! I feel cheated.
It says you're having rain now.

LOL...sorry about that..the link seems to be up and down this afternoon and evening...probably all of you guys crashing the server...ROTFL! Actually, Calhoun is so wonderfully boring that there is no news! Seriously, it's a small town online paper with a smalltime webmaster. ;)

The article, on page 3A, was titled Annual Star Party this Saturday
(I have the paper edition now). The Calhoun Times interviewed Ron
as part of our advertising for the party. I'll keep trying periodically. If I can get it to load, or if anyone else can, I'll
copy it to the site or you can.

Bummer. And we were so close to international fame.
