The current resident is pushing for all states to do mental health screening
of all citizens beginning with infants. Hmmmm, could this be why?

Eli Lilly Knew Prozac Causes Suicides, Violence - FDA Closed Both Eyes

...Can such a "head in the sand" policy be characterized as merely
overzealous business practice, or is it an indication of something much more
devastating? Eli Lilly is one of the multinational drug companies that have
developed the "Texas Medication Algorithm Project", which is part of George
Bush II's sweeping program to test kids

at school as well as pregnant mothers for "psychiatric disorders". Prozac is
one of the drugs that are to be given to kids who don't meet the evaluating
personnel's standards of "normal" behaviour.

<<.... George W. Bush has personally appointed four executives from Eli
Lilly and Company to positions on committees that effect public policy.
These appointments include the President and CEO of Eli Lilly himself.
Here's the specific data:

June 11, 2002 - President George W. Bush today announced his appointment of
Sydney Taurel (President and CEO of Eli Lilly) to serve as a Member of the
President's Homeland Security Advisory Council.

February 25, 2003 - President George W. Bush today announced his intention

Member of the President's Export Council.

January 7, 2003 - President George W. Bush today announced his intention to
appoint Steven I. Cooper to be the Chief Information Officer at the
Department of Homeland Security. Mr. Cooper previously served as the
Director of Corporate Information Systems at Eli Lilly and Company.

May 31, 2002 - The President intends to appoint Robert Neil Postlethwait to
serve as a member of the President's New Freedom Commission on Mental
Health. Mr. Postlethwait was most recently the President of the
Neuroscience Product Division for Eli Lilly where he served from 1971 to
1999. (During the development of Prozac).

July 2, 2003 - President Bush announces the nomination of Randall Tobias to

Please forward this information to all your friends who may not want the
same folks who invented Prozac to be inventing public policy in the White
House.

Washington D.C., Jan. 20 - This week the senate is expected to pass a huge
catch-all spending bill. A small part of it will resolve an issue that
sparked a nasty fight over what some believe was a blatant political payoff
to the pharmaceutical industry, and Eli Lilly and Company in particular.

The controversy has festered since the closing days of the last congress
when republicans slipped into a Homeland Defense bill a provision allowing
Lilly to escape lawsuits relating to its production of thimerosol, a vaccine
ingredient some believe causes autism in children.

In a display of arrogance and defiance, in the midst of federal
investigations into the marketing & safety of antidepressants, the FDA has
approved Eli Lilly's antidepression, stress urinary incontinence & diabetic
nerve pain drug, Cymbalta (Yentreve, Xeristar, Duloxetine), regardless
serious risk of liver toxicity, risk of suicide & self-harm and risk of
violent behavior in children and adults.

Through it all, one of the drugs seemed somehow above the fray: Prozac.
Although the warning is recommended for Prozac as well as other drugs,
Prozac is still the only one approved by the Food and Drug Administration
for the treatment of depression in children and adolescents. A large
government-financed trial recently found that it worked better than talk
therapy in helping teenagers overcome depression. And when British health
officials announced a sweeping ban of antidepressant use in children, which
touched off the debate last year, they specifically exempted Prozac.

[for the record, a 19 year old girl committed suicide in the same Eli Lilly
testing clinic testing an anti-depressant drug]

Alone among its peers, Lilly has become a potent magnet for homeless
people. For more than two decades, Lilly 's testing clinic has drawn from
the ranks of the homeless, often alcoholic men who drift in and out of
Indianapolis's church-run inner-city missions. Some mission directors
privately express misgivings about this but say they are reluctant to speak
up because they receive funding from a foundation built on Lilly stock, even
though the foundation is independent of the company and its clinic.

...In many ways, the practice is mutually beneficial. For Lilly, it is
efficient and limits the risk that subjects will sue if harmed by an
experiment or divulge particulars of a drug, say former Lilly employees and
advocates for the homeless. As for the subjects, they get several weeks or
months of free room and board, and in interviews they express voluble
gratitude for what they often call "easy money."
