Lynda,The common name is of the Mass, but the timing is the birth of the Sun God (who is coming in with the lengthening day and had virgin birth.) A pre-calendar New Year's Party. A time of sharing our food stores in the dark days (very homesteady.)
The word Christmas derives from, "Christ's Mass", ......duh!! Sort of a
Christian thingy??
The season was melded with the "pagan" winter-rituals, for the sake of enlightening the
ignorant to the true meaning of the "seasons" as God had first created them to be.
From the very beginning of the Creation God knew that a salvation would be
needed for those who would go astray from there first intended estates. The
whole creation reveals God and His designs and intentions. Pagans could see
these things in minor ways, but never understood their deeper meanings until
God sent His Son, to reveal it all.
Sure is hard, trying to teach Neo, or long-term pagans all of this!!
All fitting within the glorious teachings and lifestories of today's Bible's Christ but Christ's birth was Spring. He is of Spring Equinox. A "lamb" prediction come forth. Christ's values to celebrate, yes. But, Christ's birthday, no.
