<<And you are r-r-r-r. You are r-r-r-r. You are ......... right. (There
I said it, Lynda is right). There's no reasoning with the excuse-monger.

I guess that's why I appreciate you both (well, you three, as we had better
count Denise in here). About 30 years ago after growing up and going through
an intense (but blessedly short) period of intense self-pity, I grew a
backbone and accepted that most of what happened to me (considering that I
was neither poor, nor stupid, nor visibly impaired) was up to me. It has
saved me a great deal of grief. If you don't have anyone to blame, you can
solve the problem much more easily and efficiently.

I haven't made a single decision since my self-pitying days that was
anything but well-informed. So, on the occasional times when the shit hit
the fan, I didn't bitch about -- just cleaned up as best I could. After all,
I knew the odds.

I fully admit that Lady Luck (or my Higher Power, or something) has been
with me through much of what has been an interesting life so far. I don't
think many of us get by on our inner virtue alone (and I diverge from J&D
with this belief). We have only to look at the circumstances of our birth.
If yo' mama is a 4th generation welfare recipient you may do very well with
a huge amount of good fortune, but your chances are immensely improved if
yo' mama and grandmama and great-grandmama went to college --for all kinds
of reasons). Me, I chose <fe> to incarnate in an educated family.

Marie
