Gripping scenes, tales emerge from street count
A quote from the article:
Steinbrueck said recent national figures show that among families who are homeless, the greatest number of children are under 5.
"It's not just the older male you see on a street corner," he said. "There's a hidden face to this and it's pretty gripping."
Regarding social problems and solutions, I can be pretty hard-nosed about adults who have created their lives and are responsible for the results. But when children are involved, as they often are, I relent. We do so many things based on ideology that hurt people and weaken our country. For instance, putting fathers and mothers in jail for non-violent drug use essentially orphans children, with high attendant and subsequent costs to society. Seems to me that the richest country on earth could spend more on helping people like those in this article. We urge our women to have children and then we abandon them. Ahh, what's the use? It's all about power and making rich friends richer.
