I can only assume you are being highly sarcastic, but if not....

What? We have an enlightened populace? I hear many of you saying how
lousy our educational system is, and you can also say that it has turned out
an
enlightened populace? For shame.

Until such time as all of the people take seriously their role as citizens
(I said citizens, not leeches), the electoral college, as imperfect as it is,
is all that stands between us and total democracy (read as mob rule). If
you really think about that possibility, I don't believe anybody in their
right
mind wants that.
