Way back when - I was on swing shift (3 p.m. to 11 p.m.)
and couldn't unwind when I got home, I read - on the
weekends, too, since a not-so-nice neighborhood in Detroit
wasn't so nice back then, either, for young women. After
figuring out that I read a book a day and sometimes two
which made up for the longer ones where it would take
two days - just that year I read 365 books. Most of them
were fiction, granted, but not all - and those were 99 %
science-fiction. Which makes me smile now because current
technology *is* not only the science-fiction of 1961-1963
but even more advanced in some categories.

Don,

You said in a recent past-post that you are an ex-U.S.Navy "Swabby". So am I!!

USN, 1965-1971, TD2 (Training Devices Technician - E5).

Started out as a "Navcad" fighter-pilot, but that program got cancelled
before my transfer-orders came through from Beeville, Texas to Pensacola,
Florida.

Wound up in flight-simulators, anti-sub warfare training & anti-radar/weapons
training.

I'm in the "woods" now myself, in an RV & living off the land.

Good fortune in your ventures. It's great out here in the, "Great Green
Yonder", isn't it??

When were you in??

Farewell sir,

Paul Hillman

Novak is probably right---makes me sick to my stomach---only consolation
is that we leave no Iraq allies twisting in the wind like we did to
South Vietnamese and our faithful, credulous Hmongs who paid the price
for out treachery---wait---we may stick it to the Kurds exactly as we
stuck it the Hmongs.---can you imagine BushyBaby doing anything to
protect them against the Shiites?---su-u-u-re, just like his Daddy
protected the Shiites against Saddam---walking away for two years while
Saddam slaughtered a hundred thousand or more---30,000 in single mass
graves.

But the dream of a secular. minority-tolerant Iraq to serve as a
shining beacon for other Arab nations to emulate is dead.
