I know there are a few exotic experts on this list, and I'm hoping you can answer my question.
I have a 'Konjac' amorphophyllus that I've grown in a big pot for two years. It's never bloomed but always put up the striped stalk and whirl of leaves. I bring in the pot every fall and store it in my sunroom under a shelf where it's dark.
Today, I emptied the pot to inspect the bulb. It's grown to be about a pound, and it has a big pink bud. Is this a bloom bud, finally?
Also, 'Konjac' has the reputation of blooming without soil, sitting on a shelf. I have it exactly in that position, where it gets filtered light.
Should I put the bulb in the dark for it to bloom? Or should I pot it up again, sinking the bud to about 4 inches under the soil line, water it and put the pot in strong light?
Inquiring minds want to know.
