You can Google Celebrity-Pride-Victory scooters.  Between our deck (ramped) and the garden is a very rough lawn, so for the sake of stability I bought a four-wheeled scooter, sacrificing some turning radius advantage that three-wheelers have.  The seat locks every 45 degrees, enabling me to tend to the garden beds without twisting. The size of my feet (considerable, alas) restricts how close I can drive to the beds.  The Victory is bottom of Celebrity's line, but works great for me. Seat and back are vinyl, and the body is very tough fiberglass, I think. I bang into beds often, but have no dents.  It cost us about $2,200, 4 or 5 years ago. Now I see used ones in the paper that say they paid $4,500 for such a scooter...the price may have gone up.

Disadvantages are that the electrical works are not sufficiently shielded from moisture so that one can work in a drizzling situation, and the basket is tapered toward the bottom, so that it restricts the number of tools you can carry or retrieve, and there's no mirror for backing up. Since the rear part of the scooter is much shorter than the front part (with tiller), I often back up to a project, then turn the seat 180° to work from the back.  It is possible to get stuck, even with the 4" wide tires I have.  I was advised to immediately use slime in the tires before driving outside, but this scooter that arrived in the store had solid rather than pneumatic tires.  It rides a little hard, but I don't have to worry about a flat.  Margaret Lauterbach
