Put some dye in the water and watch where it appears. Clean the hole so there isn't any loose material or dirt in it. Then get some hydrophilic cement at any good hardware. It's just cement that will set under water. Make enough to patch the spot and work it into place. It will be set in 20 minutes and can be used within an hour.

My natural rock bird bath (granite?), about 1.5 feet by 2 feet by 6 inches
high, sitting on the ground and covered with beautiful moss in my shady city
garden in Boston has developed a leak. I know which side the leak is on (the wet
side!) but can not pinpoint the exact crack.
Does someone know how to find the source of the leak and how to plug it
safely? I sure miss the birds that used to flock to it.
The bowl was hand carved and is slightly rough.
Thanks in advance.
