Years ago I remember a Hosta growing at Old Westbury Gardens (where I used to work) growing along the Lilac walk called Hosta plantaginea.  Very, very fragrant -- it s was an absolute delight.  Perhaps this could be it?
Thanks Robert but this plantaginea is a mid season bloomer, the foliage is much broader and the plant is much bigger than the one I'm looking for.  Appreciate the effort though.
