Sure hope somebody out there can help me. I've always tried to be as organic as possible. Other than a once or twice application of round-up to the weeds in the gravel driveway (275 feet is too long to weed) we use no other chemicals here.

Last week my husband noticed that some of our eastern red cedars have brown tips. I just figured it was due to the tough winter. Yesterday I noticed something horrible on my favorite tree. There were two long cracks in the trunk that were weeping. Marching in and out of those cracks were large black ants. They appeared to be carrying out sawdust. I could see quite deeply into the tree trunk, looks like they've carved themselves a mini grand canyon.

I just want to cry about this. Don't know if it's too late to save the tree but we will look for something to spray into the crevices tomorrow. Any suggestions? And what about giving up my pesticide rule to save a tree?
